Using the Future Elderly Model, projections for Singapore’s adults 51+ show rising chronic conditions, comorbidities, obesity, and disabilities, with ethnic differences. Implementing four lifestyle interventions could save $505 million by 2050, emphasizing the importance of preventive, tailored care to reduce future healthcare burdens.
This seminar will be conducted both on-site and online.

Speakers

Professor Cynthia Chen
Prof. Chen is an Associate Professor at NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, specializing in the economics of aging, healthcare financing, and health system innovation. She has led large-scale evaluations and simulation studies on chronic disease burden, healthcare spending, and the long-term effects of preventive measures. Prof. Chen collaborates closely with Singaporean government agencies to provide economic evidence for policy decisions, including assessments of programs like the National Steps Challenge. Her work involves generating real-world evidence and applying econometric and modeling methods to inform health policy and resource allocation. Her research is supported by Singapore’s Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, US National Institutes of Aging, and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation.
